Alex McKenzie, Founder
Alex carries a family legacy of fine woodworking and master craftsmanship, both in name and spirit. As a fourth-generation Vermont woodworker, he comes from a long line of master builders – his great-grandfather was a timber framer who founded the Shelburne Craft School, and his grandfather was a renowned craftsman and mentor who had work displayed at the Shelburne Museum. Today, Alex continues the family tradition with his company, Cypress Woodworks, where he has earned a strong reputation for creativity and excellence in everything from framing to finish to furniture.
Zeb Jolin, Lead Carpenter
As lead carpenter at Cypress, Zeb takes charge of job site supervision to make sure the team stays on track with their work. Like several other Cypress team members, Zeb draws from a family heritage in woodworking, and he spent a lot of time as a child learning the craft in his father's shop. Zeb has been working in the field of woodworking for over 20 years, with a commitment to excellence and a special appreciation for the art of master craftsmanship.
Patrick Black, Shop Manager
Patrick Black joined the Cypress team as Shop Manager in mid-2018. Born in Indiana, he moved around before getting his degree in Psychology and settling in New England. Patrick enjoys Sci Fi, ultimate Frisbee, bike riding, meditation, martial arts, and has always loved woodworking and creating beautiful, functional spaces. As Patrick says, "Alex sets a great tone for the company. He likes to set his employees up for success, and he has created a wonderfully supportive atmosphere here."
Charles Cieri, Craftsman
A Pennsylvania native, Charles is Cypress' most senior employee. Before his career in building, Charles studied philosophy and journalism and worked as a freelance reporter focused on constitutional issues. Charles spent 10 years remodeling homes before moving his young family to Vermont to attend the Vermont Woodworking School. Charles, his wife, and their three children, live on a homestead in Belvidere, Vermont and you can follow their misadventures on Instagram @Cierifabrication.
Twigg Stubbs, Craftsman
Known as “Twigg” by his parents before he could walk, Robert is a born woodworker. His natural tendencies for design and creativity were refined by his father, who shared a love for carpentry and art. With his two daughters at home, Twigg gets inspiration from his family and in his downtime creates beautiful art made of rocks, metals, and of course, wood.
Alex Russell, Apprentice
If Alex isn't working at Cypress, you can find him working out at the gym or shredding down Sugarbush Mountain. Also known as “Russ,” he started doing trade work after high school and excelled tremendously. His hard work and creativity caught our eye and we are glad to have had him join our team in 2018.
